Kerry K. I am a "mulatto" as you have said. My skin is so light i have been called white most of my life. Along with red hair and freckles, showing no outward sign of being "a darkie". I am still thrown into catagories to this day. White people don't like you because you are black. Black people don't like you because you are white. I am 31 years old. Having lived my life split between the West Coast and East Coast equally.

Believe u me, that racism is still around.

My point on this is...

You said it's better to be called a mulatto than a dog.

The term mulatto is a slavery word. It actually means "half-breed as a horse". It's a very derogatory word, even in this day in age.

I can only attribute this to ignorance. Before you said a word is better said in replacement, maybe you should do your own research instead of offending others out of ignorance.

It is possible that other presidents were of mixed race. But we do not know for sure. This is the first president that is obviously of mixed race. You can see it,and he says it. This is a great deal different than some people thinking that Lincoln was black because he was dark.

Then why does the media, and even he sometimes, say that he is "Black"? Because it has been the custom over many years to call someone who is partially black black. And because Obama considers himself to be culturally black.

Now that that is over, what does this have to do with his eligiblity to be president. He was born in Hawaii.

Kerry

Thanks for following the posts here, even if you disagree with me from time to time. Actually, I hope you post here when you do disagree. That's how we learn and grow.

As to your point about the 1% definition, you are correct. I had forgotten about that. My guess is that most people today would be completely unaware of it. The "1% black" is similar to the "1% Jew" that the Nazis used to justify their hideous acts... I was really alluding to a broader point. So many of us are bi-racial that calling BHO America's first black president is simply not true. Who knew that 5 presidents faced accusations about their ancestry? I happened upon that point by accident and thought it was interesting. In some ways, it isn't surprising.

BTW, the dog comment was tongue in and cheek and snarky, period. I don't believe the person I quoted, meant or implied that anyone was literally a dog.

"Obama is not black. His mother was white. Why is it that all the race card players say he is black?"

I follow your posts regularly because I find your opinions interesting and well thought even though I do disagree most of the time. This, however, is a sticking point. Dating back to slavery, a law still on the books declares that any citizen having any percentage of African American blood is black. That's it. If an individual is 1% black, then he is still black. While there is a claim that these laws have "died," they still exist although they are not followed. Merely existing is a bit of a problem, though.

"Not black not white but a Mutt."

Mulatto might be a fairer word. Comparing a person to a dog says more about the speaker than the subject.
